Chapter 29: τ

the relevant chapter derived the τ-MHD system and introduced Alfvén waves as coupled fluid–field oscillations. This chapter develops the Alfvén mode in full structural detail.

The central insight: an Alfvén wave is a photon-in-fluid—the electromagnetic degree of freedom (the Sector B-sector holonomy) propagating not through vacuum but through a conducting medium (the Sector D- and Sector A-sector fluid). The propagation speed is not c but v_A = B/μ_0ρ, because the fluid inertia loads the electromagnetic oscillation.

In the τ-framework, this is a mixed-sector mode: a coupled oscillation of the Sector B-sector (magnetic field perturbation) and the Sector D-sector (fluid velocity perturbation). On the fiber T², the Alfvén mode corresponds to a coupled periodic orbit—a trajectory that oscillates between the Sector B and Sector D directions in the holonomy algebra.

The chapter applies the Alfvén framework to stellar physics (coronal heating, stellar wind driving) and the interstellar medium (turbulent energy transport, cosmic ray scattering).

Scope: τ-effective throughout.
