The BH-dominated epoch begins at refinement depth n_BH where the BH contribution to S_def exceeds all other contributions combined: S_def^BH(n) > S_def^other(n) for all n >= n_BH. Stars have finite lifetimes; only BHs persist forever via the No-Shrink Theorem.
