V.D165 — Linking Class

A linking class in tau^3 is a non-contractible cycle ell in H_1(T^2; Z) = Z + Z that links the two generators of pi_1(T^2). It is non-trivial if both components ell = (a, b) satisfy ab != 0, wrapping around both cycles of the torus fiber.
