The sequence 2, 8, 8, 18, 18, 32,... is a topological invariant of T^2: shell capacities 2n^2 follow from winding mode counting and period pairing follows from the Madelung energy ordering determined by iota_tau; the periodic table has its shape because the fiber torus has its shape.
