Chapter 82: The Four Ethical Tests
Can admissibility be checked by a finite procedure? This chapter derives four structural tests from the categorical framework developed in Chapters –. Test 1 (Universalizability) asks whether the maxim can be universalized without contradiction. Test 2 (Respect) asks whether the action treats persons as ends. Test 3 (Coherence) asks whether the action is coherent with the agent’s other duties. Test 4 (Monodromy Check) asks whether the action creates irreversible moral loops. A single failure rejects the maxim; passing all four yields a universalizable policy relative to the chosen model and cover.
