Chapter 42: Identity Through Transformation: Ship of Theseus as SelfDesc

Page 251 in the printed volume

The Ship of Theseus paradox is resolved within the SelfDesc framework: substrate replacement preserves life-equivalence because SelfDesc is defined over the ω-germ code, not the physical carrier. Two carriers with the same SelfDesc code are life-equivalent regardless of material composition. Metamorphosis—caterpillar to butterfly—provides the most dramatic biological confirmation, where radical carrier restructuring leaves the SelfDesc code unchanged.
